This newsletter is being created to help share information with the parents/guardians of our current 21st CCLC attendees as well as those who have potential interest in our program.
Students all report to check in areas immediately at the end of the day. Students are served snack beginning at 3:15. If your student is served snack, they will count as attending for the day, even if they leave right after that.
Following snack, while the weather permits, we take recess time from about 3:35 – 4:00. At 4:00, we go into our enrichment rotation. Each day of the week, a different enrichment subject is targeted and students follow a rotation. The rotation consists of homework help, physical activity and enrichment. Each grade level attends these events in a different order. So one rotation for example is 4:00 – 4:20 Physical education, 4:20 – 4:40 Homework Help and 4:40 – 5:00 Enrichment.
During homework help, if your child does not have homework, our adult workers provide an academic activity for the students. This is a time we can work on spelling words, AR goals, site word work, etc.
One thing we have noticed is that students don’t like to miss out. So, if you want your child to get the full experience at 21st Century, we would advise a pick up time of 5:00 pm or after. This will allow them full participation, as we transition back to free play at 5:00.
Our enrichment schedule is: Monday – Reading; Tuesday – STEM; Wednesday – Math; Thursday – ART and Friday – Fun Friday. Fun Fridays may be things such as computer lab, swimming, bingo or crafts.
We also have special events on different days such as Coffey County Library, Cooking, Mobile Stem Lab, Drama Exodus, and Coffey County Extension Programming that may interrupt this schedule. Stay up to date by checking the calendar outside the cafeteria.
Hours of Operation are from 3:10 – 5:30. All students must be picked up by that time. Parents/Guardians are asked to sign students out daily.
Through generous donations of our community partners, we do have scholarships available for those that need financial assistance to attend our program. Check at the BES office for an application form.
If pick up time presents a barrier to allowing your student to attend, please let us know! We now have the option to transport students home. Students will participate in all activities until 5 pm then will be transported home by a 21st CCLC staff member.
